Timeline & Stage

Oct 2023 - 2024 ; Introduction

Overview

Index Intelligence is a B2B product designed to empower Index Rebalance Specialists by analyzing market movements and providing forecasts to predict the stocks that passive funds will buy and sell.

At the start of 2024, the product was in its introduction stage, during which we endeavoured to attract new clients and migrate users from spreadsheets to new platforms that offer a superior data-searching experience.

Feedback from Clients ✨

“Index intelligence is useful as it has been easy to look at all the params in one place - distances to cutoff, NOC, free float. Good GUI to get a lot of information very quickly. ”

He was intimidated by the product

NOC graph - "That's straight from the methodology, it's spectacular to see it like that. It's obviously a great product."

“Amazing products you are delivering. Very happy.”

“Finds the interface nice and likes GMSR. They use it mainly for checking NOC changes and running their own model. Currently, they use it for spot checks and monitoring, but they can see it becoming more integrated into their workflows in the future. ”

Target Audience - What is Index Rebalance Specialist?

An index rebalance specialist is someone who focuses on buying and selling stocks based on changes to stock market indices like MSCI and S&P 500. They predict which stocks will be added to or removed from an index before it happens and aim to profit from these changes.

3 Design Solutions for Key User Problems

Discoverbility

Problems: Users struggle to discover intriguing trades happening in the market.

➔ Present data in an appealing way for easier scanning.

❌ Low glanceability: Long tables with a 0/1 rating decrease data search efficiency.

❌ High error rate: Excessive numbers increase the likelihood of errors when users search for specific tickers.

✔️ Improving forecast comprehension.

✔️ Increase Efficiency

Discoverbility

➔ Create a Discover Page to filter trades by use cases.

Allow users to find top trades across market easily.

Findability

Problems: Users can't locate the position of the ticker they are searching for in the index, and want to see the relevant columns they care about everytime they come to the platform.

➔ Universal Search Bar & Customise table enable users to quickly find desired tickers and relevant data.

Adoption Rate: 22.81% ➔ 30%

※ the benchmark for a good feature adoption rate in B2B SaaS is 28%.

Understanding

Problems: It takes time for user to dig into the reason driving our forecast, it also takes up client supports’ time to answer those questions.

Our Approach - How do I work as a product designer with an agile team?

Let’s take the “Reasoning Label” design as example...

01 | Understanding

Learn domain knowledge, understand user behaviours, pattern and their goals.

02 | Define

Gather feature requests from stakeholders.

Propose features based on observations.

03 | Research & Analysis

Identify request sources, user needs.

Analyze data, ideal display.

04 | Design & Prototype

Create concept, discuss with team.

05 | User Testing

Conduct user testing, demo to clients.

06 | Ship & Iteration

Approve, handover, ensure design adherence, and iteration.

01 | Understanding

1-a. We found the most common question from client query is “the reason driving our forecast”

By monitoring analytic tools, client queries tickets, and collaborating with product specialists, we gathers the common user behaviours and propose the feature development based on our understanding of the users.

1-b. Map out the user flow for this use case

02 | Define - User’s Goal

As an Index Intelligence users,

I want to understand what is driving Intropic’s forecast,

So it saves my time to dig into the reasons behind and allow me to make more informed decision.

03 & 04 | Analysis & Design

One of the key things in my work is to “understand” the data, I would also look into the methodology of index, and transform them into visual appealing design.

05 | User Testing

Affinity Diagram After User Testing - I would conduct usability tests if there are any significant changes or new designs that could affect current user behavior. Based on the feedback, I would iterate on the design and also gather general feedback on the product.

06 | Ship & Iteration

If the design is large-scale, I will break down tasks for engineers to develop easily and plan the first iteration and subsequent steps.

“I would say the fact that you guys take the time to write detailed tickets helps me a lot when I have to translate those into engineering work

especially your tickets are particularly detailed (even with QA instructions etc) so it’s very easy for me to move them across to our board or break them down further if needed”
